Cobras Return to Action Against the Indians
The Coker College women’s lacrosse team will face South Atlantic Conference opponent Catawba College on Wednesday, March 28. This will be the Cobras second SAC matchup of the season and will serve as their Fangs United game.
HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker College women's lacrosse team will face South Atlantic Conference opponent Catawba College on Wednesday, March 28. This will be the Cobras second SAC matchup of the season and will serve as their Fangs United game.
Faith Kent is having a standout season, collecting 51 points on 36 goals and 15 assists. She has also scooped up 18 ground balls, and controlled 37 draws. Haley McCusker is the other primary offensive threat with 29 points on 26 goals and three assists. She has the team-high 37 ground balls and 45 draw controls. Katie Driskell has had a solid going as well, leading the team with 12 caused turnovers, while contributing 12 points and 16 ground balls. Through six games, Cassie Williams has 67 saves in the cage.
As of March 22, the Navy and Gold lead the conference in draw controls per game (15.43). Williams ranks 15th nationally and first in the SAC in saves. McCusker is first in the conference in two categories (draw controls per game (6.43) and 5.29 ground balls per game, which ranks second nationally) and second in another (7.14 shots on goal per game, 12th nationally). Kent is making a splash in nationwide statistics. She leads the SAC in seven different categories: 2.14 assists per game, 36 goals (11th in NCAA), 5.14 goals per game (4th nationally), 51 points (ninth in the nation), 7.29 points per game (third nationally), 9.86 shots per game (sixth nationwide), and 7.57 shots on goal per game (fifth in the country).
The Indians have two players tied with 23 goals on the season: Nicole Hunt and Erin Green. The duo of goalkeepers, Grace Brennen and Madison Anselmo, have combined for 97 saves on the season, while giving up 153 goals to their opponents. Catawba leads the nation in yellow cards with 26 in their 12 games this season.
Opening draw against Catawba is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
