Cobras Dominate Newberry to Stay Perfect in Conference
The win moves Coker to 6-2 and 3-0 in the South Atlantic Conference.

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- Coker women's lacrosse took down Newberry 19-4 on Saturday (Mar. 18) to stay perfect in South Atlantic Conference play.
Coker jumped out to a 5-0 lead just past the halfway point of the first half with three goals from Haley McCusker and one each from Claudia Jenkins and Mackenzie Baker. The two teams went back and forth for the final few minutes of the half, with McCusker and Faith Kent countering two Wolves goals to take Coker to the half up 7-2.
Coker came out firing again in the second half, with McCusker, Katie Driskell and Kent each finding the back of the net in the first three minutes and 16 seconds. Another marker from Baker gave Coker a brief 10-goal lead, before Newberry got the game back to single digits. Coker scored the last five goals of the game off the sticks of Jenkins, Driskell, Kent, Baker and Marabeth Durden.
McCusker tallied a team-high six goals in the win, while Kent recorded four. Baker and Jenkins each notched hat tricks, Durden found the back of the net once. Coker won the draw control battle 15-11, with Lindsay Ordemann recording a team-high six. The Cobras caused 20 turnovers, led by Durden's five. The Navy and gold also doubled up Newberry on ground balls 26-13, with Kent scooping up a game-high seven. Cassie Williams (6-2) made two saves in the win.
The Cobras hit the road to take on Erskine on Wednesday (Mar. 22) for a 6:00 p.m. opening draw.
