Bulldogs Sneak Past Cobras in Critical SAC Game
The Coker women's lacrosse team dropped a nail-biting South Atlantic Conference game to the Bulldogs of Wingate University on Saturday (Mar. 21).
WINGATE, N.C. – The Coker women's lacrosse team dropped a nail-biting South Atlantic Conference game, 13-12, to the Wingate Bulldogs on Saturday (Mar. 21).
The Cobras would trail the Bulldogs by three, 9-6, at halftime. However, the Navy and Yellow would come out strong in the second half, going on a 5-0 run to take an 11-9 lead with 19 minutes to go in the game. Wingate would rally and go on a 3-0 run of its own to capture a 12-11 lead. The lead would be short-lived, as Coker would knot the game at 12-all, following an unassisted Mackenzie Baker goal. The Bulldogs would eventually sneak the game-winning goal into the back of the net with 7:10 left in the game.
Offensively, Danielle Holcomb led the way with five points on three goals and two assists. Claudia Jenkins and Marabeth Durden both scored two goals and dished out an assist, while Baker and Haley McCusker netted two goals apiece. Lindsay Ordemann concluded the scoring with one goal.
Defensively, Kaitlyn Vela made 12 saves in 60 minutes of action.
The Cobras will be back in action on Monday (Mar. 23) when they play host to Colorado St.-Pueblo at Byerly Park. The game is slated for a 3 p.m. start.
