Hartsville, SC – Dominant wins, record seasons, and securing a Co-Championship – all of this and more tonight in Hartsville as the Cobras secured a 4-1 win over Wingate.
The first goal for the Cobras came in the opening ten minutes of the Contest as Leo Souza found Oskar Kaufmann on an easy finish to take the 1-0 lead. Great build-up play by Coker from end to end allowed them to take the early lead in this ever-important contest.
Not long after, the Cobras struck again. Halfway through the first half, Frederic Benedix found Vitalis Takawira Jr. who had a class finish into the bottom right corner to double Coker's total on the day. Early in this one, the Cobras found themselves up 2-0.
In the remaining twenty minutes of play, the Bulldogs stepped up their play and competed well with the Cobras. They were able to hold that scoreline where it was and Coker took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
Out of the break, the Cobras once again scored within the opening ten minutes of a period. Youri Keijser found Kaufmann on another beautiful build-up play to give them a three-goal cushion.
After the Bulldogs got one back and made it 3-1, the Cobras responded less than ten minutes later with one of their own. Niko Sotra slotted home a 69th-minute goal to give him his first goal of his Cobra career and put Coker up 4-1.
That result held true for the remaining twenty minutes and Coker walked off the turf with a dominant win. With this win, the Cobras clinched a share of the 2024 SAC Regular season title, tying Limestone at the top of the table. They also tied the record for an unbeaten streak (12 games, set by the 2011-12 team) and secured their best regular season since joining the South Atlantic Conference.
With this win and the Limestone tie against Mars Hill, the Cobras clinched the second seed in the SAC postseason tournament and will face off against seventh-seeded Catawba at home on Saturday.
