Newberry, SC - The Cobras now have their longest win streak since joining the South Atlantic Conference and their longest overall since 2011, as the Cobras defeated the Wolves of Newberry College 3-0.
Back in 2011, the Cobras rattled off a twelve-game win streak in a season that saw them go 18-3, win the Conference Carolinas, and get a berth into the NCAA DII National Tournament. This season, the Cobras are 10-1 and looking to have a similar type of year, this time in the SAC.
The scoring opened up early in this one, with Youri Keijser scoring off a Frederic Benedix pass in the second minute to send Coker up 1-0. After the early opener, it was relatively quiet, with no goals scored by either team for the remainder of the half.
Under ten minutes into the second half, another entrance into the scoring line happened. This time, it was a blunder by the Newberry squad that scored an own goal and gave the Cobras a 2-0 lead. Then, around fifteen minutes later, the Cobras created their own offense in the form of a Connor Duggan goal off a Lukas Berntsson pass to make it 3-0. The last twenty minutes or so were relatively quiet and the Cobras walked away with yet another notch in the win column.
The Cobras have four games remaining in the regular season before the South Atlantic Conference tournament begins. The next one of those is an important road contest on Friday against Anderson as they look to extend this streak to nine wins. Kick-off for that contest is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET.
