How It Happened
A back-and-forth first half ensued, with the first goal coming at the hands of the Pioneers. Not even three minutes after, the Cobras got one back on an Ajemian goal (Forehand assist) to even things up at 1-1. After that, it turned into a game of runs. Two goals by the Pioneers were followed up with a four-goal run by the Cobras to take a 5-3 lead early in the second quarter. These goals included a second one by Ajemian, one from Beighey (Hiltz assist), a full-field runner from Connor Gross, and finally, one from Ford.
It was fitting that, on senior day, the first five goals were scored by seniors. Unfortunately, right after the run by the Cobras, the Pioneers scored five of the next six goals to take an 8-6 lead right before half. The lone goal for the Cobras during the time came from Ryan Forehand on an unassisted effort.
In the second half, it was all Cobras all day long. Coker scored six goals in a row, and nine of the rest of the ten scored, to win this one for the Cobras 14-9! Leading 8-6 at half, Tusculum was held to just one goal en route to this victory. The nine goals for the Cobras, in order, were scored by Hiltz (Britt Rumbaugh assist), Ajemian, Beighey (Hiltz assist), Ajemian again (Forehand assist), Ford, Rumbaugh (Ford assist), Ajemian x3, and Ryan Forehand (Will Habel assist).
We would also like to shout out our ten seniors for their stellar careers on and off the field. The ten men honored today were Beighey, Ford, Habel, Ajemian, Brennon Madonia, Connor Gross, Sean Moran, Zach Childress, and KJ Seymour. We thank these guys for all they've done for the team and the department!
Notables
- Beighey now sits just one goal away from 100 on his career
- Gross's goal was just the fourth one of his career, scoring on a runner down the field unchecked in transition. This is the first goal of the season, playing primarily in a defensive role.
