Coker Shuts Down Shorter in Mid-Week Match Up
Coker defeats Shorter 16-4.
Hartsville, SC - The Coker University Men's Lacrosse Team defeated Shorter for their third consecutive win on Wednesday (March 22nd), taking their record to 6-3.
Setting the tone early, Ryna Forehand ripped the first goal of the game into the back of the net within the first 40 seconds of the first face off, taking the Cobras up by one. The Cobras didn't slow down as Zyaire Marshall followed Forehand's lead and put his first goal into the cage at the 13:12 minute mark. Once again, Ryan Forehand (assisted by Augie Ford) found his second goal of the game, taking Coker's lead up by three. In the final three minutes, Will Hable found the back of the cage, a hot shot to put the Cobras on the scoreboard at 4-0. It wasn't until the final two minutes that Jaden Sealey of Shorter landed his first goal of the game and brought the Cobras lead back down to three. Grant Sandars also scored at the end of the first quarter and brought the score to 4-2.
The second quarter, not quite as action packed for the Cobras, only brought in two goals. Zyaire Marshall and Augie Ford (assisted by Augie Ford) took the score up to 6-2 going into halftime. Despite the lead by Coker, Earl Marshall would find the back of the cage and register the only goal for the Hawks in the third quarter. The Cobras rung up four goals in the third quarter, taking the lead up to a heavy seven points. Those goals were scored by Augie Ford (2), Justin Beighey, and Jackson Duke. Coker continuing to run away with the game, started off the fourth quarter similar to the first; Ryan Forehand faking out goalie, Chase Finley, and placing the ball into the top left corner of the cage for goal number 11. Justin Beighey (assisted by Jackson Duke) picked up goal number 12 and continued to keep Coker's momentum going. Jackson Duke and Ryan Forehand registered the next two goals and continue pushing as Shorter struggled to keep up. Despite the daunting lead, Jaden Sealey was able to score once again and put the score at 14-4. Caden Gore, with his first goal of the 2022-23 season, answered promptly to put the Hawks back down. Energy from Gore's goal pushed Ryan Forehand into action once more, scoring his fifth goal and sealing the score at a hefty 16-4.
Ryan Forehand led the Cobras with five goals, follwoed closely by Augie Ford with three goals. Justin Beighey, Zyaire Marshall, and Jackson Duke collected two goals apiece, while Will Habel and Caden Gore registered one. Nathan Allan picked up 11 ground balls and three caused turnovers for the Cobras. Coker also won 17 out of the 22 face-offs attempted and were 20-23 on clears for the day. Nathan Allan went 16-19 on face-offs, followed up by John McGovern IV went 1-1.
Ethan Hofert put up a hefty 51:28 minutes and claimed 10 saves out of 13 shots. Hofert only allowed three goals in his time between the pipes. KJ Seymore put in 8:32 minutes in the cage and brought in one save out of two shots.
The Cobras will be returning to the field on Saturday (March 25th) against Lincoln Memorial. The first face off is set for 4:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial. Live stats and streaming will be available at www.cokercobras.com
