Cobras Shut Down Lions in Season Opener by Score of 22-6
Coker outscores Emmanuel by 16 points.
Frankling Springs, GA - The Coker University Men's Lacrosse Team crushed the Emmanuel Lions in their Season Opener on Saturday (Feb. 4th).
The Cobras proved to be a well-oiled machine only 45 seconds into the first quarter, Justin Beighey immediately putting the ball into the back of the net (assisted by Zyaire Marshall). Only 30 seconds later, Ryan Forehand was putting his first collegiate goal in the books to take the Cobras up 2-0. Even with the intimidating start from Coker, Emmanuel answered with two goals late in the first quarter. To end the first, Elijah Utz scored his first of the 2022-23 seasson with only 1:29 left, assisted by Ryan Forehand.
To begin the second quarter, Coker scored five unanswered goals, Zyaire Marshall (1), Cal Gibson (3), and Justin Beighey (1) all contributing. Emmanuel scored their single goal of the second quarter with 3:11 left. The Cobras sealed the first half with an additional two goals, bringing their lead to 10-3.
Once again, Coker pounced on their opponents and took control of the second half immediately. Cal Gibson found his fourth, fifth, and sixth goal of the day (all within a matter of minutes), while Justin Beighey put an extra two in the cage. Coker would continue to go on an offensive rampage, ending the game with a resounding 22-6 score.
Ethan Hofert claimed the win against the Lions witth 57:09 minutes in the bank. Hofert closed with 11 saves throughout the game. KJ Seymore also made an appearance with two saves.
The Cobras will be returning to the field on Saturday (Feb. 11) against Lander. The first Face Off is set for 1:00 PM in Hartsville, SC. Live stats and streaming will be available at www.cokercobras.com
