Men's Lacrosse Drops Hard-Fought Contest to No. 10/14 Mount Olive

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University men's lacrosse team dropped a hard-fought contest to No. 10/14 Mount Olive on Sunday (Feb. 6) by a score of 11-7.
The Cobras jumped out to a 3-0 lead through six and a half minutes, with two goals from Zyaire Marshall and a goal from Cal Gibson assisted by Will Habel. The Trojans responded with three goals to tie the game up through 15 minutes of play.
The Cobras would strike for two consecutive goals to start the second quarter, with Dominic Madlang scoring a man-up goal from Henry Haskett 15 seconds into the quarter and a hat trick goal from Marshall a few minutes later. The Trojans would again respond, scoring four goals to end the half and take a 7-5 lead to the break.
Each team scored twice in the third quarter, with Coker countering two Mount Olive goals from earlier in the frame. Haskett scored unassisted six minutes into the period, before scoring three minutes later off an assist from Gibson. The Trojans took a 9-7 lead to the fourth, before scoring the only two goals in the final frame to secure the win.
Marshall paced the Cobras with a hat trick in his first collegiate game, while Haskett scored twice and Madlang and Gibson each netted one goal. Gibson, Haskett and Habel each registered one assist in the game for the Cobras. Coker totaled 23 ground balls in the game, led by four apiece from Corey Gales and Ethan Hofert. William Pollok collected three ground balls in the game, while Habel, Nathan Allan and Bob Melia each picked up two in the contest. Justin Beighey, Marshall, Gibson and Connor Gross each grabbed one ground ball for Coker. Coker also totaled 14 caused turnovers in the game, led by three each from Gibson, Gales and Pollok. Haskett and Gross each forced two turnovers in the game, while Jake Brundage added one. Hofert recorded 11 saves between the pipes in his first collegiate start.
The Cobras return to action next Monday (Feb. 14) to host Colorado Mesa in non-conference action. Opening faceoff is set for 2:00 p.m. from the Coker Athletic Field, with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com.
