Cobras Host Lincoln Memorial in Conference Opener

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College men's lacrosse team (3-2) will host the visiting Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters Saturday (Mar. 10) afternoon to open up South Atlantic Conference play at 2 p.m. Live stats and video for the game can be found at www.cokercobras.com.
The Cobras last took the field back on Mar. 3 and defeated Palm Beach Atlantic 10-9 thanks to a late defensive stand. The Navy and Gold were led offensively by Rylee Marsh, who recorded a season-high six points off of three goals and three assists. Matt Murphy and Ethan Irizarry trailed Marsh with three points from two goals and one assist. Denton Wilks, Charles Stafford, Justin Hopkins, and Nicholas Maddox all tallied one point each. On the defensive end, the Cobras had impressive performances from DeShaun Ormond, Hopkins, and Cole Theodoropolous. Ormond scooped up four ground balls and caused a team-best four turnovers, while Hopkins led the team in ground balls with five. Theodoropolous hustled for three ground balls and caused two turnovers. In between the pipes, Hagy collected eight saves. As a team, the Cobras finished 3-3 on man-up opportunities.
Heading into tomorrow's contest, Marsh leads the Cobras on the offensive end with 15 points, burying seven goals and dishing out eight assists. Irizarry trails Marsh with 13 points, recording eight goals and five assists, while Murphy has added 11 points off of seven goals and four assists. Joe Venazio has seven points so far, while Brooks Long has tallied six points on the year.
Hopkins, Ormond, and Stafford have been ground ball machines for the Navy and Gold, scooping up 20, 16, and 14 ground balls, respectively. Defensively, Ormond has caused a team-best nine turnovers and James Brugger has added eight. In between the pipes, Hagy has accumulated 53 saves and has a 56.4 save percentage. Additionally, the freshman goalkeeper has a solid 8.26 goals against average.
Lincoln Memorial enters tomorrow's contest with a 5-1 record. Adam Golia leads the Railsplitters offensively with 42 points off of 26 goals and 16 assists.
As mentioned, opening face off is set for 2 p.m. at the Coker Athletic Field. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
