
Joan M. Johnson Named New Head Field Hockey Coach
Hartsville, SC- Joan M. Johnson has been named Coker University's Field Hockey's new head coach, announced today (Friday, June 20th) by Vice President of Athletics and Athletic Facilities, Dr. Lynn Griffin. With an impressive background and extensive experience in coaching at various levels, Johnson is expected to bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the program.
"We are excited to welcome Coach Johnson and her family to Coker," said Griffin. "Joan brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Coker and I look forward to watching her continue to build and grow our program".
Johnson's coaching career began at Old Mill High School in 1988 and 1989, where she coached the program to its first winning season. Since then, she has held various coaching positions at both the high school and collegiate levels, including stints at Chesapeake High School, Medaille University, and Cedar Crest College.
During her time at Cedar Crest College, Johnson led the team to the United East Conference Championship game and coached the United East Rookie of the Year, as well as four All-Conference Players. She also oversaw all aspects of the program, including recruiting, budgeting, and fundraising, and served as the Student Athletic Advisory Council Advisor.
Coach Johnson had this to say "Thank you to Dr. Griffin for the vote of confidence to carry on all the excellent work that has been done with the field hockey program at Coker thus far. We are told to never stop working hard for what we want and that is what I hope to instill upon these young athletes. I am excited to be a part of field hockey in the South!! In addition to her coaching experience, Johnson has also been involved in the development of the sport at the grassroots level. She has organized and hosted player clinics, camps, and championships, as well as volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House during nationals. Johnson's commitment to player development and community involvement sets her apart as a coach who truly cares about the growth of the sport and the well-being of her players.
With her extensive coaching background, commitment to player development, and proven track record of success, Joan M. Johnson is poised to make a significant impact on the field hockey program at Coker University. Her leadership and expertise will undoubtedly help elevate the program to new heights and establish Coker as a competitive force in the field hockey landscape.
