Coker Athletes Work Together to Serve Local Community
The Coker men's lacrosse and men's basketball teams partnered together for a 9/11 Day of Service project on Saturday (Sept. 6).
HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker men's lacrosse and men's basketball teams teamed up on Saturday (Sept. 6) for a 9/11 Day of Service project at Byerly Park in Hartsville. The teams spent majority of the morning repairing fences located in the park's two football fields.
"This is more than community service to us," said head lacrosse coach David Olliver. "Byerly is home to Coker lacrosse and any time we can give back to them it is an honor."
The service project was the first collaboration between the two teams, but it definitely may not be the last.
"Working with those guys was fun," said junior men's basketball player Gabriel Mens. "Completing a task in settings like this builds camaraderie between the teams and builds on that family atmosphere we strive for at Coker.
The Cobra men's basketball team kicks off its season on Saturday (Nov. 8) in an exhibition against Campbell University, while the men's lacrosse team opens with Saint Leo University at home on Saturday (Feb. 14).
