Men's Lacrosse Battles, but Falls to No. 17 Queens (N.C.)
HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Coker University men’s lacrosse battled Wednesday night (Mar. 30), but fell to No. 17 Queens (N.C.) in South Atlantic Conference action by a score of 14-6.
HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Coker University men's lacrosse battled Wednesday night (Mar. 30), but fell to No. 17 Queens (N.C.) in South Atlantic Conference action by a score of 14-6.
The Royals scored the first goal of the game early, before Coker tied things up less than six minutes in off an unassisted goal from Cal Gibson. The Cobras would take a 2-1 lead to the second quarter after Justin Beighey scored off an assist from Gibson with under two minutes to play.
The Royals scored the first three goals of the second to take a 4-2 lead at the halfway point of the frame, before Zyaire Marshall scored a man-up goal from Gibson to get Coker back within one. Queens finished the quarter on a run to take a 6-3 lead to the half.
After Queens scored the first goal of the second half, Gibson scored from Beighey to get the Cobras back within three. After Queens stretched the lead, Marshall closed out the third with his second of the night with 41 seconds to play in the frame.
Gibson would score Coker's final goal of the night with six minutes to play in the fourth.
Gibson paced the Cobras with a hat trick in the game, while Marshall scored twice and Beighey scored once. Gibson also dished out two assists, while Beighey also helped on one Coker goal. Nathan Allan and Ethan Hofert each picked up a team-high six ground balls in the game, while 11 others also scooped up ground balls in the game. Four different Cobras caused turnovers in the game, while Hofert also made 18 saves between the pipes.
