Men’s Lacrosse Hosts Lees-McRae on Senior Night

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College men's lacrosse team (6-6 overall) will host the visiting Lees-McRae College Bobcats Saturday (Apr. 14) evening on senior night at 6 p.m. Live stats and video for the game can be found at www.cokercobras.com.

Coker will be honoring seniors DeShaun Ormond, Brooks Long, Austin Kelly, Rylee Marsh, Cole Theodoropoulos, and Edward Lytle before Saturday's game.

Ormond is a computer science major from Gainesville, Va. He has appeared in 54 games over his time at Coker. During his four years, DeShaun has collected 153 ground balls and caused 60 turnovers and had a career day against Tusculum earlier this year with two goals, one assist, 12 grounds balls and two caused turnovers. Ormond is currently third all-time in ground balls and second in caused turnovers in the Coker record books. DeShaun has been a leader on campus in many different capacities serving as an Ambassador as well as an RA, while also interning with the IT department on campus.

Long is a biology major maintaining a 3.4 GPA. Brooks resides from Mount Laurel, NJ. During his time at Coker, Brooks has appeared in 42 games, accounting for 43 points and a huge game game-winner on the road in his sophomore campaign. Brooks has been a staple for the Cobras at midfield since arriving on campus.

Kelly is a Sport Communication major with a 3.00 GPA and a minor in Communications. Austin has appeared in eight games and will be making his first start tomorrow. Austin has been the ultimate team player since his arrival to Coker and played a vital part his freshman year in a Conference Championship effort.

Marsh is an exercise science major with a 3.2 GPA from Victoria, British Columbia. Rylee has played in every game of his career missing only one start over his four years. During Rylee's time here at Coker, he accumulated 67 goals to go along with 57 assists and 92 ground balls. Rylee currently sits just two points shy of sitting second as Coker's all-time leader in points.

Theodoropoulos is a Business Administration major carrying a 3.1 GPA. Cole joined the Cobras by way of Orlando, Fla. Cole has appeared in 50 games, collecting 63 ground balls and causing 32 turnovers. Not only has Cole been a huge contributor at the long stick midfielder position, but he also led the man-down unit over the past couple of years. Cole has been a hard-working athlete on and off the field, while also serving as a Student Athlete Advisory Committee member. Cole has spent much of his time working with Sodexo foods and played a pivotal part in making Coker College a verified food recovery center to help stop hunger in communities.

Lytle is from Myrtle Beach, S.C. and is a math major. He has been a valuable tutor in the Math Department during his time at Coker. Unfortunately this fall, Ed suffered a season ending knee injury and has not been able to participate this season. Lytle appeared in two games during his Coker career.

Heading into tomorrow's contest, Marsh and Matt Murphy lead the Cobras on the offensive end with 34 and 29 points, respectively. Marsh has buried 18 goals and has dished out a team-best 16 assists, while Murphy has tallied 17 goals and has added 12 assists. Marsh's season total in assists is good for ninth in the South Atlantic Conference. Ethan Irizarry trails Marsh and Murphy with 28 points, recording a team-high 21 goals and adding seven assists.

Ormond, Justin Hopkins, and Charles Stafford have hustled for possessions for the Navy and Gold, scooping up 45, 39, and 32 ground balls, respectively. Defensively, Ormond has caused a team-best 21 turnovers, good for second in the conference, while Cole Theodoropoulos has added 13 for the ninth best mark in the SAC. In between the pipes, Chris Hagy has accumulated 122 saves (fourth in the SAC) and has a 52.1 save percentage. Additionally, the freshman goalkeeper has a respectable 9.65 goals against average, which is the third best mark in the conference.

Lees-McRae enters tomorrow's contest with a 2-4 overall record and a 1-4 mark in Conference Carolinas play. Offensively, the Bobcats are led by Alex Molander with 30 points.

As mentioned, opening face off is set for 6 p.m. at the Coker Athletic Field. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
